Rita Kami Sherpa – Man On Mission

After the successful ascent of Mt. Everest by Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay Sherpa on 29 May 1953 via S-Col SE Ridge, many mountaineers have climbed till date. But, Apa Sherpa aka and Kami Rita from Thame and Phurba Tashi from Khumjung are the 3 individuals able to write the history by climbing the world’s highest mountain for the 21 times equal ascent.

Kami Rita, born in 19 Jan 1970 has made 32 successful summits of Everest 21 times, Cho Oyu 8 times, Lhotse, K2 and Manaslu once, and is aiming to be the first man to step highest peak for 22 times becoming “Most Successful Ascent of Mt. Everest” and equalizing with the record of Phurba Tashi Sherpa with 33 ascents who started his career as the climber from Cho Oyu in 1998 to Manaslu in 2017.

On the day of Everest Day 29 May, he will be looking forward to push himself for his next summit, according to Kami Rita. The status I am currently holding is all because of my father who inspired me a lot. He has a dream of climbing Everest for 25 times and will not quit till he have his family support, Kami Rita added.

In 2016, Apa Sherpa and Phurba Tashi announced their retirement from the Everest.
