Nepal government has downsized the number of rooms for the star category hotels outside the capital city, Kathmandu.
According to the new provision, 100 rooms downsized to 80 rooms of 5 star categories for the hotel outside the valley. Likewise, 80 rooms downed to 60 rooms for 4 star categories, from 60 rooms to 45 rooms for 3 star categories, from 30 rooms to 15 rooms for 1 star category. Parking areas are also not be arranged for 4 and 5 star categories hotel if they in remote area. Likewise, swimming pool are also not required in case of mountainous area for 4 and 5 star categories.
“The new provision made is to encourage the investors to open the star category hotels outside the Kathmandu valley meanwhile no provision has been changed inside the valley”, according to an Officer at the hotel division of the Tourism Department – Rajesh Lamsal. He also added that the provision used to be the same for all over the country. Tourism Department has a record of 11 five star categories and 5 four star categories hotels in operation in 2017.
There has been the influx of international chain hotels which includes Sheraton, Marriot, India’s Hotel Leela Palaces and OYO Rooms and Thailand’s Dusit International.
