Khopra Ridge Trek – Nepal’s Hidden Gem with Annapurna Panoramas
Escape the crowds and discover the Khopra Ridge Trek, a breathtaking off-the-beaten-path adventure in the Annapurna region that combines pristine wilderness, cultural encounters, and unmatched Himalayan views.
Unlike the busy Annapurna Circuit, this 7-10 day trek takes you through remote Gurung and Magar villages, lush rhododendron forests, and high alpine pastures to Khopra Ridge (3,660m), where you’ll witness sunrise over Dhaulagiri (8,167m), Annapurna South (7,219m), and Nilgiri (7,061m) without the tourist bustle. The highlight? A side trip to Khayer Lake (4,600m), a sacred glacial lake nestled beneath Annapurna Fang.
Khayer Lake (4,600m) offers a sacred, pristine glacial setting beneath Annapurna Fang with fewer crowds, untouched trails, and community teahouse stays that support local Gurung and Magar villages. The trek showcases rich biodiversity, including rhododendron forests and potential wildlife sightings, while providing cultural encounters in traditional villages like Ghandruk and Swanta. Suitable for moderately fit trekkers, this 7-10 day customizable itinerary features the best sunrise and sunset spots at Khopra Ridge and Poon Hill, promoting sustainable tourism through local cooperatives and eco-friendly lodges.

Khayer Lake Trek Difficulty
The Khayer Lake trek, a detour from the Khopra Ridge route, is a strenuous high-altitude hike best suited for experienced trekkers due to its steep ascents, rugged terrain, and unpredictable weather. The trail climbs from Khopra Ridge (3,660m) to Khayer Lake (4,600m), gaining nearly 1,000m in elevation over 6-8 hours round-trip, with sections of loose scree, snow patches (outside summer), and narrow ridges.
Thin air at this altitude (similar to Annapurna Base Camp) can cause fatigue and mild altitude sickness, requiring proper acclimatization. While no technical climbing is needed, trekkers should have prior Himalayan trekking experience (3,500m+) and strong endurance. The reward? One of Nepal’s most sacred alpine lakes, reflecting the towering Annapurna Fang (7,647m)—a view few travelers witness.
Khopra Ridge Trek (Khopra Danda Trek) in Nepal or Khayer Lake Hike is one of the newly open trekking routes in the Annapurna Region and connected with Annapurna Base Camp, walking route separated from Tadapani to Khopra Hill or Khayer Lake (Tal). If you are looking for a perfect short trek in the heart of Himalayas with off the beaten path and a great view, Khopra Danda Trek will be the perfect choice for you.
You pass through Rhododendron forest viewing magnificent white Himalayan around your eyesight which includes Mt. Dhaulagiri, Annapurna (I, II, III, and south), Lamjung Himal Hiunchuli, Machhapuchhare (Fishtail) and Nilgiri. This program is perfectly designed for those who want to explore the non-touristic trekking route in the Annapurna region. You can enjoy breathing taking sunrise view from Khopra danda.
This off the beaten trail passes through a very unique and beautiful village of several ethnic communities like Chhetri, Brahmin, Gurung, Magar, etc. This trek will provide you the real Nepali traditions and cultural essence within a short time. You can either trek solo, with your friends and families.
Khopra Ridge Trek is one of the best off the beaten Path trek around Pokhara, giving the best of what Nepal can offer you, in a short time period. Being less crowded area, this trek surpasses many other trekking’s. This Short trek from Pokhara is a natural gem we recommend not to miss if you are in Nepal.
