Day Mountain Bike Trip around Kathmandu: A Typical Day on a Kathmandu Cycling Tour
Our Day Mountain Bike Trip around Kathmandu begins with an early morning pickup from your hotel in Kathmandu. After a short drive to the trailhead, you’ll meet your expert English-speaking guide, receive a top-quality mountain bike and safety gear, and enjoy a thorough safety briefing. Then, the adventure begins. You’ll cycle through a stunning variety of landscapes—from ancient brick-paved squares and bustling village markets to quiet forest singletracks and terraced hillsides. A highlight is always stopping for a delicious local lunch, perhaps a traditional Newari thali in a heritage courtyard or a meal with spectacular mountain views from a hillside cafe . After a full day of exploration and adventure, our support vehicle will be there to transport you and your bike comfortably back to your hotel in Kathmandu.

Best Time for a Cycling Tour around Kathmandu
The best time to enjoy a mountain bike trip in Kathmandu is during the dry seasons. Spring (March to May) and Autumn (September to November) offer the most stable weather, clear skies, and spectacular mountain views. The temperatures are pleasant for physical activity, and the trails are in prime condition. While it’s possible to cycle during the winter months, it can be colder at higher elevations. The monsoon season (June to August) generally makes trails slippery and challenging, though there can be breaks in the weather .
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
1. Do I need to be an expert cyclist to join a day tour?
Not at all. The beauty of the valley is its variety. We offer tours specifically designed for beginners, such as the Mudkhu Tokha Ride or the Chobhar Gorge tour, which feature easy, mostly flat terrain . For experienced riders, we have more challenging technical routes. We always match the tour to your ability .
2. What kind of bike will I get?
We provide high-quality, well-maintained mountain bikes suitable for the terrain. Our standard tours typically include front-suspension mountain bikes, and full-suspension bikes are available upon request .
3. Is the tour safe with Kathmandu’s traffic?
Yes, safety is our top priority. Our expert local guides know the best routes to minimize time on busy highways. Many of our rides take you on quiet country roads, village trails, and forest singletracks away from the main traffic. We also provide safety helmets and a support vehicle that follows on longer routes .
4. What should I bring on the cycling tour?
We recommend wearing comfortable, breathable clothing suitable for cycling. Sturdy shoes, sunscreen, sunglasses, a camera, and a small backpack for personal items are also a good idea. We provide water and lunch .
5. Can I customize my own route?
Absolutely! If you have a specific place you’d like to visit or a particular type of trail you’re looking for, we can work with you to create a customized 1-day cycling itinerary that perfectly matches your dreams .
