KATHMANDU, Nepal saw tremendous growth in foreign tourist arrivals in January 2019 with a total arrivals grew by 25.4 percent to 91,793.
As Nepal aiming to attract two million tourists in 2020 when the country will be organizing Visit Nepal Year-2020, it is very encouraging indication.
In 2018 the Himalayan country received over 1.1 million tourists, according to the NTB. It was the first time that Nepal saw more than 1 million tourists in a year in its history
China combining with Taiwan emerged as the largest source market of foreign tourists to Nepal in January this year, overtaking India as Nepal welcomed 15,343 tourists from its northern neighbor, Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) said on Tuesday.
The mainland China contributed a total of 13,688 tourists while a total of 1,655 tourists came from Taiwan region. India, traditionally the largest source market, contributed 14,650 tourists, according NTB.
NTB Chief Executive Officer Deepak Raj Joshi said that the growth in the international visitor arrivals in the very outset of 2019 was possible because Nepal has continuously spread positive message internationally.
“This growth has encouraged us to work even harder to harness the strengths of both public and private sector in the days to come “he added.
After China and India, Thailand, United States and South Korea came third, fourth and fifth respectively in terms of contributing foreign tourists to Nepal in January this year.
