Nepal is heaven in terms of natural touristic destinations all over the world. Trekking in Nepal is another unique product that has no other options in the world to compete. There are several trekking destinations in Nepal like trekking in Everest Region, Trekking in Annapurna Region, trekking in Manaslu Region, Trekking in Kanchenjunga Region, etc. Among them trekking in the Helambu area in the Langtang region is a common trekking area near Kathmandu.

Helambu Trek is a popular trekking destination located in the Langtang region of Nepal. It is a short and easy trek that offers breathtaking views of the Himalayas, scenic landscapes, and insights into the unique culture of the Sherpa people.

The trek usually starts from Sundarijal, which is located about an hour’s drive from Kathmandu. From there, the trek follows a trail through dense forests of oak, pine, and rhododendron, and passes through several traditional Sherpa villages like Chisapani, Kutumsang, Thadepati, and Tarke Gyang.

One of the highlights of the Helambu Trek is the opportunity to interact with the friendly Sherpa people and experience their way of life. The Sherpas are known for their hospitality, and you can stay at their traditional lodges and enjoy local food and drinks.

Another highlight of the trek is the stunning views of the Himalayas, including peaks like Langtang Lirung, Dorje Lakpa, and Gaurishankar. The trek also takes you through beautiful valleys, rivers, and waterfalls, making it a photographer’s paradise.

The Helambu Trek is suitable for trekkers of all levels, and it usually takes 6-7 days to complete. The best time to go on this trek is from March to May and from September to December when the weather is dry and clear

This trek is very close to Kathmandu Valley so it doesn’t have a high elevation but offers very beautiful mountain scenery and landscape. Due to some reasons, it is frequently advertised by tour groups as being easy. Yet, many hikers who come here on treks find it more demanding than they feel they were led to trust and more difficult than they expect. Trekking in Helambu Region is always demanding, and though it is not as high as other treks in Nepal, it is still a physically demanding hike and trekkers should be in good physical condition. With that in mind, this is a beautiful trek and well worth the power.

The Helambu Trekking Region is inhabited by the Sherpas and Gurung, located in the upper part of the Malechmi Khola. The Helambu Trek can be started in Kathmandu and completed in 6 to 9 days. The typical nine-day itinerary is round, with the first day’s section being repeated at the end of the walk. The sudden gap between the lower and upper regions and their characteristic cultures is more outstanding than others. Accommodation can be found in local lodges and village guest houses. Though this trekking region is very close to Kathmandu, it remains unspoiled. This trek starts from Sundarijal and climbs upwards crossing the amazing flora and fauna of Shivapuri National Park.
